Valve's Mission To Rid DRM
Tuesday, March 31, 2009
Valve is trying to make DRM unnecessary on Steam by adding a new feature called Custom Executable Generation (CEG). CEG will provide each user a unique copy allowing them to install multiple copies of the game without having to deal with any codes or root kits. This solution is being included in Valve's Steamworks application. [Source - Gamasutra]

... by calling it something else? Custom executable generation is just another technique for digital restrictions manglement, not an alternative to DRM in general. Sure, it's an alternative to other (as or more braindamaged) _forms of_ DRM. But fundamentally, they're still trying to dictate what you can and cannot do with some 1s and 0s, and as such they're doomed.
